Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) is expanding its international network by exploring a strategic collaboration with Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK), Malaysia. The meeting took place at USK’s Rectorate Mini Hall on Wednesday, 10 September 2025.
The discussion was attended by USK Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, and UNIRAZAK Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Samsinar Md Sidin. Both leaders highlighted various potential areas of cooperation that can soon be realized.
“We are very open to building partnerships and learning from each other. We believe this collaboration will bring significant benefits to both institutions, particularly in enhancing the quality of education and teaching,” said Prof. Marwan.
For the initial phase, the collaboration will focus on postgraduate programs. “At present, we will concentrate on two study programs: Master of Education and Master of Economics,” Prof. Marwan explained.
He further noted that a student exchange program between the two universities is already in place, and this collaboration will strengthen existing ties. Meanwhile, Prof. Samsinar expressed her enthusiasm for expanding the scope of partnership.
“We see many opportunities for joint teaching, staff exchanges, and other programs that will enrich the academic experience for both our students and faculty,” Prof. Samsinar stated.
She also emphasized the shared vision of both universities to foster an environment that supports intellectual and professional growth.
Prior to the rector-level meeting, the UNIRAZAK delegation also visited the Office of International Affairs (OIA) of USK on 9 September 2025. The visit served as a follow-up to previous discussions and included plans to implement the USK student exchange program to UNIRAZAK Kuala Lumpur in the near future.
The meeting also touched upon future plans to develop a double degree program. However, Prof. Marwan clarified that such a program would require approval and specific agreements from the Indonesian government before it can be officially implemented.
The collaboration between USK and UNIRAZAK is expected to serve as a strong foundation for creating innovative academic initiatives that not only improve the quality of graduates but also strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia in the field of higher education.
