Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) welcomed its new international students for the 2026/2027 academic year through the Pengenalan Akademik dan Kehidupan Kampus bagi Mahasiswa Baru (PAKARMARU), held from 10 to 13 August 2026.
The international students participating in the program come from Thailand, Solomon Islands, Kyrgyzstan, Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya. Their presence further strengthens the diversity and international atmosphere within USK’s academic community.
The students are pursuing undergraduate (Bachelor’s) and graduate (Master’s) degrees across various fields of study. They are enrolled in several faculties and study programs, including Veterinary Medicine, Accounting, Medicine, Mathematics, Nursing, Environmental Management, Civil Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Disaster Science.
Throughout the PAKARMARU program, USK’s Global Engagement Office (GEO) played an important role in assisting the international students and supporting their participation in the various activities. This assistance is part of GEO’s ongoing efforts to help international students adapt to USK’s academic environment and campus life.
Through PAKARMARU, the new international students were introduced to USK’s academic environment, education system, facilities, and various aspects of campus life. The program also provided an opportunity for them to meet fellow students and build connections with peers from diverse backgrounds.
The diversity of nationalities and academic disciplines represented by the new international students is an important part of strengthening USK’s internationalization efforts. Cross-cultural interactions within the university are expected to enrich students’ academic and social experiences while contributing to a more inclusive and globally oriented higher education environment.
The program also supports USK’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing access to quality higher education for students from different countries; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by fostering an inclusive and equitable academic environment for students from diverse backgrounds; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening international academic networks and partnerships.
With the arrival of international students from various countries in the 2026/2027 academic year, USK continues to demonstrate its commitment to building an open, diverse, inclusive, and globally connected academic community.
